when you plan and plan and plan for something REALLY super fun, do you ever have a backup plan 'just in case'? well, in the past several months i've learned to ALWAYS have a backup plan. it seems that most of the things in my life are comically the result of being 'plan B' (or C, D, E...L, M...you get the drift). but i tend to roll with things pretty well, and in general giggle at the outcomes.
we had planned for months on taking an excursion (because i couldn't think of a cooler word) to a super secret location to get some great images before school let out. this is one of my creative outlets that allows me to play and try new things. the nice thing about going to a new location is all of the creative lighting and textures you can find.
we took several girls with us on a day trip to photograph at a really cool location - angie came up with the idea to shoot at the wichita wildlife refuge earlier in the year. when we went down to check it out, however, we realized that for the sake of feasibility (and sanity) we would need to restrict our wanderings to one 'area'. and when we stumbled upon the holy city in the middle of the refuge, we knew we were in LOVE.
but as you know with my luck (see paragraph above), we ended up with plan B (to start with). the day before we were scheduled to go the weather reports were forecasting doom, gloom and flooding all in and around the holy city. and pretty much across the entire state. ahhhh.... so after a few hours of 'adjusting' schedules with the bus and the girls we moved it to the following weekend.
along comes the morning of our excursion (YAY!) and we all arrive early at the studio. well, all of us except for the BUS (minor detail). after hunting them down (not an easy task on a saturday - i owe angie 4 margaritas for this...) and screaming at them, they realize they never changed the reservation and do not even have us on their schedule (and we're on a pretty tight schedule as it is). long story short (if you want the full-on ranting screaming version - even a month later - with the name of the company we wouldn't recommend to ANYONE on earth - swing by the studio. but i warn you you'll want to bring sonic drinks and settle in for a while...) they finally arrive almost 2 hours late, and instead of our bus we scheduled with them they have sent the completely tricked-out brittany spears pepto bismol tour bus. i must say, it was a HOOT.
so we arrive - the light is BEE-YOO-TEE-FUL!!! however, the wind was a bit annoying (LOL!). but we made the most of it and had THE best time ever (well, i did - hee hee). we even trekked up to meers burgers for some famous food before heading home. and i only managed to get 3 people sick, so i think i'm doing a bang-up job in the fun department!! YEE HAW!!
here are a few images from our playdate, or 'plan B' as i've now renamed the excursion. the light was very warm and beautiful for most of the morning, and i love the effects it has on the stones and the prairie grass!
