francesca's continues to be one of the biggest supporters of lights. camera. fashion! each year, and we are so grateful and appreciative!!  since it is also one of my favorite places to show, we LOVE to showcase their clothes on the runway!!  thanks to all the peeps at francesca's collections at spring creek plaza in edmond!

hip and swanky was also a GREAT supporter of the show this year, providing several of the amazing pieces that hit the runway on thursday night.  they have some incredible items for the enchanted and galaxy look, as well as some americana pieces that we loved.  they are definitely on my list of fave places to shop now too!!  they have some fierce looks there that you need to check out!  they're located at kickingbird plaza in edmond!

and to my new BFF cody - the food that was provided by WhichWich was UN-BELIEVABLE!!!  all the models and staff went nuts over it!!  thank you SO much for providing sandwiches, chips, and YUUUUUMMMMMY cookies for us!!  if you haven't tried one of WhichWich's 50 different sandwiches, be sure to stop by and see them at the southwest corner of 2nd and bryant in edmond - they're FABOO!!

one of our favorite lunch places here at 3 girls photography is old school bagel cafe on covell (just east of kelly).  we love the sandwiches they have, and also the fun atmosphere!  thanks sonny and peeps for providing our staff sandwiches while we were setting up that afternoon - you ROCK!!

fashion friday: enchanted!

here it is, the last fashion friday segment before the Lights, Camera, Fashion! event.

to wrap up the overview of each theme, we have enchanted! with this theme, we are seeing tons of fun, whimsical pieces. we suggest earth tones, grays, blues, greens... anything "earthy." floaty fabrics, crocheted accessories, and lace add a very "fairtytale" feel. think along the lines of anthropologie and free people.

some of our favorite looks included a pair of jeans, a dark grey top, a gorgeous crocheted vest, and a headband with an oversized gray bow. we LOVED it! 

think whimsical, but put together. we love dresses from free people, especially paired with leggings and strappy sandals, or over sized flowy tops cinched at the waist with a leather belt.

fashion friday: galaxy!

this week's fashion friday segment is a tribute to our galaxy theme, which is all about bold shoulders, clean lines, studs or rhinestones, and a combination of colors such as black, silver, white, and gold.

while photographing our models for the fashion show promo material, we saw a stellar (yes, pun intended) pair of silver leggings, countless pairs of black skinny jeans (awesome) and tops and dresses embellished with sequins, rhinestones, and stud-- all which brought a futuristic feel to the session!

shoulder pads are back in, but instead of the over sized, boxy shoulder pads, designers are incorporating smaller, more natural looking shoulder pads into tops, jackets, and even dresses. a singular piece should be used when coordinating an outfit- for instance, a solid-colored sequined top, black skinny jeans, and a short black jacket with accentuated shoulders would fit the theme.

we had a model show up with silver leggings (they looked liquid-y... so cool!) paired with a skirt and tank. models arrived wearing short black dresses with sparkly accents; some wore angular jewelry and fitted black clothing from head to toe.

the galaxy theme is one that can really be played with, keep in mind a futuristic, space-y theme... for all of those around my age...remember zenon, girl of the 21st century on disney? think along those lines, but more monochromatic. metallics, black, white, gray, and with a lot more flashy adornment. 

girls, go with stick straight hair, funky hair pieces, metallic colored clip-in hair extensions, a tight ponytail, or something equally harsh and dramatic. play with makeup, and create an extra smoky eye, wear false lashes, and keep the lips a muted natural shade.

statement shoes are never a disappointment; funky, strappy, metallic, or super high heels can make a proclamation and really pull an outfit together.

in all honesty, one cannot go too over the top or too matchy-matchy with the galaxy theme; it is one that allows for creativity and ostentation-- clearly we can't wait to put it on the runway!

fashion friday: DIY/80's

    this week’s fashion friday blog focuses on our DIY/80’s theme—this one was one of our favorites to shoot! our models did a phenomenal job, and brought some vintage pieces as well as some fun new pieces and accessories.

    the goal with the DIY/80’s theme is to bring in some personal funky flair—do it yourslef! rip things, add paint, bows, lace, belts, or take a pair of scissors to the outfit. we especially enjoyed adding color, specifically neons in any form we could have them. models came in with bright purple leggings and hot pink stretchy tops, they wore mismatched leg warmers and even turned one lime green legwarmer into a glove; it is all about creativity and having fun. 

    not only did we encounter numerous sliced, off-the shoulder sweatshirts, legwarmers, and leggings, but we also had bright neon hightop sneakers, tutus and innumerable accent pieces. don’t be afraid to add bracelets, headbands, ribbons, bows, hair clips, or seemingly obnoxious neon leggings—the right combination can make it work.            

    i have been inspired by some iconic 80’s movies—the breakfast club, 16 candles, ferris bueller’s day off,  pretty in pink—can you tell i’m a john hughes fan? (cue cheesy montage to don’t you forget about me by simple minds) i love taking the 80’s old school look and adding new pieces to make it more modern; bring the 80’s to 2010.

     take a vintage band tee, add a tutu or skirt and a pair of leggings, and tie a ribbon into your hair, then add accessories like bracelets or a glove. layer a colorful tank under an off-the-shoulder sweatshirt, add a big bow or flower headband, and pair with ripped jeans and hightops.  take a vintage-looking michael jackson-esque jacket and pair it with a long top and some crazy bright leggings—maybe add a glove and really channel mj.

    guys, take a sport coat and layer over a colorful casual tee and add a fedora. try neon sweatshirts or hoodies, white t-shirts with a neon design are always a win in our book, especially paired with distressed jeans. throw in some neon accessories, a large watch, ray ban sunglasses, or bright sneakers.

in essence, be funky, go vintage, mix & match, layer, accessorize.

welcome to fashion friday

yes, i realize it's saturday.  and if i'm being totally honest here (because i'm not a big fan of guilt), this was supposed to be posted LAST friday.  as in EIGHT days ago.

OOPS.

so as a little lead in, i'm going to introduce kassy - our newest member of the team at 3 girls photography (*cheers* *clapping* *excited whistles*).  YAY!!  she's all of about 3 feet tall (okay, maybe a WEE bit taller...) and as spunky as i am (if not spunkier).  good golly that's a cute word.  'spunky'.  :-)

she's also CRAZY about fashion.  yep - even more so than i am.

so i thought it would be a great idea for kassy to take on a weekly blog post for us - fashion friday!  what i forgot to tell her is how horrible i am at keeping the blog updated, so i think i'll let her make the posts herself from now on... 

so without further ado... here it is - our first fashion friday blog post!!! (*more whistles and cheers* *fans going crazy*)

it's our first official fashion friday here at 3 girls, and we are super excited to share the news of our upcoming FASHION SHOW!!!!!

Lights. Camera. Fashion! is in it's 4th year as the most incredible event on the planet.  and for the 2nd year in a row we are teaming up with Mothers Against Drunk Driving to bring edmond and the surrounding communities a look at what's coming up in fashion and style from the big city!  this year's show will be the hottest event of the season with four main themes on the runway: Galaxy, Americana, Enchanted, and 80's/DIY.

mark your calendars!!  on thursday, april 29th, the UCO ballrooms will be transformed into a high fashion runway, and YOU are invited to join us and see what's headed our way in fashion!

in preparation for the festivities, we are going to introduce the main themes and styles of the season, and how they can be incorporated into personal style to help seniors express themselves (and the rest of us too!).  this week, we are tackling the Americana theme.

what, exactly, IS Americana?  we like to define Americana as a clean look, with fun fabric, oftentimes patriotic colors, gingham patterns, classic silhouettes, and prep-school style with trendy details.

the goal: simple, classic, but never boring.  think along the lines of Gap, and J Crew, with statement jewelry and accessories.

for example, a simple spring style for girls: a high-waisted, elastic waistband skirt paired with a sleeveless ruffled tank and solid (but bold) colored cardigan.  throw a skinny belt over the un-buttoned cardigan, add a chunky, fun, long necklace, basic earrings, a few bangle bracelets, and ballet flats and you have created a perfect look!  other pieces to build an outfit around: vests, khaki shorts, long necklaces, men's neckties as belts, flowy tops, tunics, tailored blazers, 'boyfriend' sweaters, and oxfords. don't shy away from gingham patterns, plaids, patriotic colors or nautical patterns and cuts.

for the guys: clean lines, khaki or dark jeans, boat shoes, a striped rugby or bold gingham or plaid oxford.  try fitted jackets, sweaters or shirts in navy, red and white.  the Americana look is all about the casual, tailored look and creating a sophisticated yet laid back silhouette.

next week's theme: 80's/DIY (OH YEAH!!!)

we're SO excited!!! 3 girls photography has a NATIONAL SPA MODEL WINNER!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO LAUREN LUNDEEN from Deer Creek High School!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in case you haven't figured out yet - this is UNBELIEVABLY INCREDIBLE, AMAZING, PHENOMENAL, and we're OUTRAGEOUSLY EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!

each year the most incredible studios around the country (and even in a few other countries as well!) get together for the most innovative, creative, passionate and cutting-edge learning event on earth for senior portrait photographers.  we are so honored to be a part of this incredible group of talent - senior portrait artists (spa). in the fall of each year, spa holds a contest to select the top 15 high school models from across the nation to have the honor of modeling at the annual event each january.  winning models this year win an all-expense paid trip to the del Coronado resort in san diego, where the event is being held.  they will meet with a modeling agent, model for the fashion shoots, and have the honor of kicking off the national spa lights. camera. fashion! show for 2010  (which i'm SO excited to be leading at the event this year!!  WOO HOO!!).  

3 girls photography is HONORED to have one of the 15 NATIONAL WINNERS from almost 500 entries from all over the US (and beyond)!!  

WE'RE SO EXCITED FOR YOU LAUREN!!!!!!

lauren and her mom will be traveling with the girls and i to beautiful san diego in january to model at one of the most incredible places on earth.  we're so excited to share her journey with you!!

there were soooooo many incredible entries this year i did NOT envy the job of selecting the winners - when we found out last week we had a finalist, we were BEYOND thrilled - what an honor for lauren and for us as well!!  i'm still completely speechless and thrilled that she was chosen from such an amazing group of entries - she will have the time of her LIFE!!

so juniors, get ready for 2010 - and watch as we take you through lauren's journey to see how amazing it will be to have your senior portraits with us!!  we can't wait to meet you!

lauren - we love you and can't wait to play in january!!  CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN!!

lights. camera. fashion! it's coming...

 

it's coming, it's coming, it's COMING!!  that's right - lights. camera. fashion! our annual fashion show will be held on tuesday, april 28th.  mark your calendars, get your friends ready, and plan on having the time of your life.

because this show is for real.

we'll be bringing in the hottest upcoming fashions from all over the country, debuting them in true runway fashion.  sara lebovitz, our fabulous fashion stylist and friend (who puts on seventeen magazine's fashion show each year) has spent the past several months with our friends at spa (senior portrait artists) shopping for the fashions we'll be seeing this coming year. 

and this year we've partnered with MADD to raise money for charity. 

are you excited yet?  we are.  there is so much to tell, so much to share.  so stay tuned as we bring you all the info, and share with you the upcoming trends in high school fashion.

we'll also be introducing our models on the blog beginning next monday, march 23rd.  i'm quite head over heels about these girls and guys this year - they are all so very unique and fun and interesting and i've had a crazy fun time photographing them so far.  and this is just the beginning...

matilda jane trunk show - WEDNESDAY 4:00-7:00

hi all!  just a quick reminder before i head off to bed (don't worry, i won't actually get to SLEEP until probably 1ish at best).  our matilda jane trunk show will be tomorrow (wednesday) at the studio.  the BRAND NEW spring line 'hot line' will be here for you to see and shop!  it's going to be FABULOUS - you will not want to miss this!

if you're planning portraits of your child (or children!) this spring (don't forget easter!  our easter special is coming up at the end of march!), these clothes are absolutely amazing for photographs.  i highly recommend them!

we're hosting a matilda jane trunk show!

we're gearing up to host another matilda jane trunk show at the studio!  our last show (back in november) was a HUGE hit and we had a blast seeing everyone!  this show is going to be the unveiling of the BRAND NEW SPRING LINE!!  and we are the VERY first show in our area, so everything will be in stock - this is THE time to come if you're interested!

what is matilda jane?  only some of THE most adorable girls' clothing i've seen!  check it out at www.matildajaneclothing.com to see what i mean.  they have a few pieces for boys, as well as a few pieces for big girls (aka women) too.  it is also some of my ultimatefavoritecantstandhowcutetheyare clothing to photograph children in!  they're just flabbergastedly CUTE.
