hi all!

unfortunately (or fortunately?) there are no images to accompany this brief post, but i think your imagination will suffice.
so the last wednesday of every month, riley's (my 6-year-old) school dismisses early (1:30pm) for staff development. which is a lovely time for she and i to spend about an hour together - just the two of us - before having to pick up reagan and reese. now, jim is off on wednesdays and has taken over these duties, but it's still a fun little one-on-one time nonetheless.
and today just happened to be the last wednesday in the month of february (i promise - i even checked the calendar). which, of course, means early pickup (note the above paragraph). easy peasy.
1:30, remember?
well, at 2:00 my phone rings. not sure what i was doing, but i missed the call (i was at the studio). i walked into the room just in time to hear the 'doodle-doop' of the phone letting me know there was a cute little message just for me, waiting to be heard. :-)
WRONG.
'hi jen, this is (name withheld to protect the innocent) at (riley's school). today was early dismissal, and i'm not sure who was supposed to pick her up today, but i have her here with me in my office. if you could give us a call...' (not really sure what words followed that because i was pretty sure i was going to throw up at this point).
as i'm hitting the end button somewhere on my phone i am FRANTICALLY racing out of the studio, barely remembering to lock it (at least i THINK i locked it...). i am driving a wee bit fast (though pretty much close to the speed limit - i have this horrendous luck with speeding and policmen and tickets and...well, that's a whole other post), just focused on the immense amount of therapy we're going to have to setup for riley (and me) in the near future. i'm also thinking of where i can purchase a pony in a short amount of time as a gift.
i get there. i park a bit illegally. i race in and perform the severe walk of shame into the office, ready to pour out my heart and tears and promises of gifts and goodies and treats and sugar.
she is grinning ear to ear. could not have cared LESS that i forgot her. had the BEST time playing with her little friend whats-his-name, reading a book about smelly dog breath, and getting to hang out in the office. even giggled a bit that her teacher also almost forgot her (she WAS the last one there ya know), and gave me a 'mommy, did you forget? you're so SILLY!'.
i immediately started offering up all sorts of bribery (thankfully she chose ice cream over the pony - i'm not much of an equestrian). i even TRIED to get her to be mad at me, or hurt, or upset.
nope.
so my big LOSER, mother-of-the-year event turned out to be okay after all. seems that riley is so secure in our love for her that she knows we would never leave her on purpose (well, at least not without a backup plan). gotta love my sweet roo!
well look at that - my 'brief' post has turned out to be my typical novel adventure. but as you know by now, that's just how i roll. :-) hopefully this brought a teeny giggle or grin into your day. i'm quite certain it won't be that last time i do something like this (in fact, i guarantee it - we have a similarly horrible story involving reagan...), so stay tuned...

i realized that i never seem to post any images of senior BOYS. which is strange, because we photograph several boys each year, and they all come in these nice little cute packages with interesting personalities, just like girls do! strange how that just sort of hits you, but it's actually true. boys are just as fun as girls.
and this boy certainly makes that apparent. travis was one of THE funnest (yep, STILL think that should be an official word) peeps i had the honor of capturing for all eternity (i was going for a 'hallmark card' feel - what do you think? too much?). i was in stitches for most of his session, and loved EVERY minute of it.
in fact, most of his images looked much like these:
saturday night fever anyone?
fake surprise (or perhaps real surprise in the fact that i was indeed photographing him as he took off on his one-man show...)
nice shot of the jeans (i think he might own 98% of the clothing that Structure sells...)
a bit of zoolander thrown in just for good measure...
perhaps my instructions weren't quite as clear as i thought they were...
how cute is this?? riley stopped by to grab something at the studio while we were there, and was smitten with travis from the moment she walked in (as only a 6-year-old can be). she also has this strange fetish with wanting to hold fake flowers (eeeeewwww). so we thought it would be cute to prop riley up on santa travis for a quick shot. she is pretty convinced that she's going to marry him one day. go figure. (and yes, the scrapes on her knee are typical... we tend to take 'live life to the fullest' at its face value in our house)
by some miracle (or act of congress) we did manage to get some fabulous, and more natural, images towards the end of the session. this is one of my ultimate favorites.
oooohhhh... or maybe it's this one. big, close tie on that one. probably have to go with this one, though. :-)
ahhhhhh..... i think it's just fantastically cool to get to meet and play with all of these different personalities that come through our door (literally AND figuratively). i definitely have THE coolest job in the world.
til next time...

you can just imagine the look of pure glee on my face when these 3 little 'american girl' doppelgangers walked in the door. and i can answer your question before you ask - YES, they were Every bit as sweet (and sassy!) as they look.
Elle, Evan and Emmy are HUGE daddy's girls. and dad is Enormously proud of them (who wouldn't be?).
(crawling right into my heart :-)
(official princess-in-training)
(ohmygoshthispictureissoadorableicantstandit)
emmy (an actual angel-in-disguise, though not very well disguised i must say :-) had just recently turned 1. happy birthday emmy!
i love this image. it's such a sweet little peek into the relationship between sisters. the older one taking the lead, and the younger one following along. little girls that look up to their sisters like this just make my heart swell. of course, it can also make me giggle uncontrollably when the older one gets a wee bit 'tired' of having her own little shadow, but i digress...
and this sums it all up. emmy is done. :-)

we are still in the midst of 2009 senior portraits, so i thought i'd post one of my favorite sessions from this glamorous group of soon-to-be high school grads. sarah has a wonderful, unique look to her that is SOOO much fun to photograph. and i happen to just adore her as well. :-) but if we're being 100% truthful here, i pretty much adore ALL my seniors. they're a little extension of my family, and i love getting to be a part of their story, even if for just a little while.
we had so much fun just playing! the most beautiful images are made when you relax and just play in front of the camera.
sarah looks amazing in blue!
BEE-YOO-TEEFUL!!!
i love photographing seniors all year round - the different seasons each produce their own creative images. :-)
til next time...

i can't believe i waited so long to share these images. jorja has got to be one of THE cutest people on earth. before i met her, paivy had described her as a 'precious moments doll' (do they make dolls?), and i have to completely agree.
(how can anyone be this cute??)
i thought it would be super cute to put some sunglasses on jorja and sass it up for a bit. however, neither jorja nor her mom had sunglasses on them to play with. never fear - paivy to the rescue! apparently paivy has this sunglasses 'fetish' of sorts (more like a compulsive obsession). it's rumored she owns several hundred pair, but i haven't dared try and confirm this (i'm afraid i might get lost in the abyss of shades). so once the sunglasses were mentioned, paivy hopped outside for a moment and came back in with an ARMLOAD of sunglasses from her car to choose from. i have a lot of quick wit anecdotes surrounding this visual image here, but i'll save that for a future blog. :-)
jorja's mom, julie, is just as cute as jorja (they look just alike!). and i am completely head over heels about her. she let us play with jorja's hair, giggle, jump on the furniture, and all sorts of things that we like to do (but don't often get to in the real world). i am a HUGE believer in letting kids be kids, and capturing just who they are - playful spirit and all. julie was 150% in tune with us, and as a result jorja's images were very reflective of her sweet and playful spirit.
jorja decided that she wanted to come and work with us when she grows up too. i think that would be a fanTABULOUS idea. :-)
thanks for coming to play with us jorja! we can't wait til next time. :-)

with the 'long' weekend we discovered at the last minute on the calendar, the girls and i decided to head to camp nannypapa for the weekend. camp nannypapa is almost the equivalent of disney world in our eyes, as it often times is seen as 'the greatest place on earth'. the girls are enamored with my mom (nana - lovingly renamed 'nanny' by riley, sometimes to my mom's chagrin :-) and dad (papa), and the 'new toys' that are there every time they visit just delight the heck out of them (yep, you guessed it, just recycled toys from our house - the same ones that have been there for a few years now). they get to watch 'new' movies, hang out with papa, visit their sweet friend madolyn, and oftentimes cook with nanny in the kitchen.
