we just got back from a weekend at great wolf lodge in grapevine, texas. for those of you who read my blog in the past, you know that this is our second 'great wolf' venture, but our first to the new one down south. last summer we traipsed up to kansas city for our first visit to the ginormous indoor waterpark that IS great wolf lodge, and we also had a great time shopping and visiting with the antisdels down in louisburg.
well this time we decided that the shorter drive was more appealing, so we headed 3 hours south to grapevine to stay in the newly opened (for just 2 months) lodge there. i must tell you - it was FABULOUS (and no, we had no lifeguard rescues this time). it was even bigger and better than its kansas city sibling, and the girls were overjoyed. we spent every morning and evening at the waterpark, and in between we did a lot of one of my favorite pastimes - shopping. anthropologie was my favorite store this trip with all the new fun spring fashions abounding. i'm thrilled to see a lot of the flirty dresses this year, and the colors are gorgeous!
we also discovered an addictive new pastime to do while staying at the lodge - MagiQuest. this is an interactive fantasy game that takes you back and forth all over the entire lodge following clues to complete each of your 'quests'. there are dragons, fairies, pixies, wizards, wolves, beasts, and all sorts of interesting creatures. we bought riley and reagan each a wand (which is what you need to play the game) and then traipsed them up and down the stairs hoping to wear them out. well, we DID wear them out, but by then jim and i were hooked on the game so we were wishing we had got wands for ourselves too. the nice thing about it is that you can take your wand and play at any great wolf location in the US and also continue where you left off when you return. we're already planning our next trip. check out www.magiquest.com for the 411 on this cool game.
as far as the waterpark goes, the kids had this thing figured out in no time. jim and i, on the other hand, feel as if we spent the whole time herding cats - to which there is an intricate art i might add. reese had decided on her routine quickly - kid pool (10 minutes), wave pool riding in a tube on mommy's lap (i used to be TERRIFIED of the wave pool as a kid, now my 2 year old LOVES it - go figure), hot tub, towel. riley, on the other hand, is a true thrill-seeker. she doesn't care if she's too small for something, she wants to do it anyway (and will stand on tiptoes to sneak by). she loves riding any sort of slide or tube, and is 100% nonstop. reagan just wants to hang wherever it's 'cool' at the moment. she also likes to create new ways to get from the top to the bottom of anything, which typically results in some sort of comical fall (and parents nearby gasping). but we're used to it - it's just her style. :-)
so that's part of the reason i've been away for a few days, that and we're now in the game of catch-up since we've returned. and for those of you who are keeping score, i managed to fall not once, but TWO times this morning on the sidewalk. my count is three for the year so far - i'm quite certain that's worth some type of award...
peace and popsicles -
