1024 west covell - our NEW studio!!

IMG_6484

ohmigosh ohmigosh ohmigosh i'm SO crazy EXCITED!!!!!!!

so if you're wondering about my sudden hiatus, this should explain it.  we've been trying to finish up june's sessions, while at the same time planning the move to the new studio.  it's been a wild and crazy ride, and we've had the BEST builders ever to play with.  if you're in need of builders for anything under the sun, you need to check out miller-tippens.  i can't imagine working with a better builder!!

so we've been picking out paint, shopping for furniture, picking out wood, shopping for furniture, picking out weird and eclectic items for various areas, shopping for furniture, and doing everything under the sun to get ready for the new studio.  WHEW!

and WHEN is move-in day you ask?  well...it's THIS FRIDAY!!!!  we've got a jam-packed 24-hour-a-day move schedule starting on friday to get ready for our jam-packed 100%-full july schedule that starts immediately following the move.  we've be fully FUNCTIONAL once we're in, but the studio itself won't be completely 'ready' for a while.  we've still got furniture coming, decor coming, and displays on the way.  we'll be having the world's most fabulous grand opening in (hopefully) september.

DID I MENTION WE'RE UNBELIEVABLY EXCITED?!?!?

these are some quick shots i took recently.  the colors are a bit off, but you get an idea of the interior.  it's absolutely GINORMOUS!!

IMG_6463

this is a shot of our main camera room.

IMG_6467

the paint in these images isn't quite finished - there are glazes and faux finishes still to be applied.  the exposed ceilings are throughout for the most part.

IMG_6475

i wanted to have a funky room somewhere, so we opted for the 2nd bathroom to be this flamboyant red color.  it's a vibrant fire-engine-red meets cherry-red color.  i LOVE it.  the main bathroom is much larger with a dressing area - they were hanging the chandelier in there today so the image isn't quite as fun.  :-)

IMG_6479

i had forgotten all about the landscaping in my glee of the building progress.  the landscapers ROCKED it today and put in some incredibly cool greenery.  this was just after they got started.

IMG_6483

we call the front arch windows the 'taco bell windows'.  (no worries - they'll have glass!!  they're absolutely ENORMOUS).  apparently everyone who's seen the building at any point in time has thought it was a mexican restaurant, with the lowe's workers hoping it was a taco bell when the framing went up.  so we've lovingly incorporated everyone's desires into the new digs.  angie and i like to nickname everything in the studio (yes, we brought the door-doors with us), so this name will stick for sure.

so if you're free on friday come on over!! we could use an extra hand (or 3 or 4) moving!!

WOO HOO!!!
peace and popsicles -

introducing boutique baby and boutique kids

2009BoutiqueFrontWEB

it's finally HERE!!!  we've been hard at work on our brand new 'boutique' line for babies and kids for the past year, and it's finally HERE!!

can you tell i'm a WEE bit excited??  we've also included our brand new 'in bloom' sessions for the mom-to-be to show off the beautiful blossoming relationship with that little miracle growing inside.

boutique is more than just a new line - it's a FEELING.  an EMOTION.  a PASSION.  it's a vibrant, playful, whimsical approach to babies and children like you've never seen.  it's playful, it's silly, it's a glimpse of fear, a hesitation.  we're so excited to watch these emotions and explorations and relationships grow with your child!

so give us a call at the studio and let us tell you all about the new boutique line.  we're also introducing several exclusive products from 3 girls just for our boutique clients.  you'll be amazed at how quickly you'll fall in love all over again...

senior portraits - ready when YOU are!

the most frequent comment we get from our beautiful clients this time of year is that they 'realize it's late in the game, but we need to schedule our senior portraits!'

and we want to make sure and ease everyone's concerns by letting you know that we photograph senior portraits YEAR ROUND!!  YAY!!!

there is no deadline for having your senior portraits done!  the only deadlines surrounding photography and your senior year are those set by your school and the yearbook staff.  for example, if you are an edmond school senior your yearbook deadline could be anywhere from august 29th to late september/early october.  but keep in mind that the yearbook image is completely separate from your senior portraits - this is the standard image on a set background that goes into the yearbook only.  your senior portraits are an experience you'll never forget. :-)

so make sure and schedule your senior portraits when YOU are ready!  once we have you on the calendar for your senior portrait session, we will schedule a separate mini-session (about 10 minutes) for your yearbook image IF your session date is later than (or too close to) your yearbook deadline.  how easy is that?

we're almost completely full for july, and august is not far behind!  but september and october are FABULOUSLY fun times of the year for senior portraits!  so relax and enjoy - this is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for seniors and we want to make sure they can savor every moment and enjoy the exclusive 3 girls experience!  we'll get the yearbook image done for you on time - no worries. :-)

happy summer everyone!!  and be sure to check out our brand new SENIOR site!!  www.3girlsphotography.com

beautiful blaire bear

my sweet, beautiful blaire bear JUST got to have her senior portraits done a short while back.  she has had braces and orthodontics (from our best friends at orthodontic associates!) of some sort since she was about 12 years old!  so this was a truly amazing experience for blaire - and sooooooo worth the wait!!  i'm just SO excited for her!!  blaire - you look absolutely BEE-YOO-TEE-FUL and are ALWAYS such fun to be with!!  i'm so glad we waited til the braces were off (thanks dr. amy!!) as - believe it or not - blaire got even MORE beautiful when her smile was freed.  :-)

here's just a glimpse of the images from her session...

the excursion - otherwise known as 'plan B'

when you plan and plan and plan for something REALLY super fun, do you ever have a backup plan 'just in case'?  well, in the past several months i've learned to ALWAYS have a backup plan.  it seems that most of the things in my life are comically the result of being 'plan B' (or C, D, E...L, M...you get the drift).  but i tend to roll with things pretty well, and in general giggle at the outcomes.

we had planned for months on taking an excursion (because i couldn't think of a cooler word) to a super secret location to get some great images before school let out.  this is one of my creative outlets that allows me to play and try new things.  the nice thing about going to a new location is all of the creative lighting and textures you can find.

we took several girls with us on a day trip to photograph at a really cool location - angie came up with the idea to shoot at the wichita wildlife refuge earlier in the year.  when we went down to check it out, however, we realized that for the sake of feasibility (and sanity) we would need to restrict our wanderings to one 'area'.  and when we stumbled upon the holy city in the middle of the refuge, we knew we were in LOVE.

but as you know with my luck (see paragraph above), we ended up with plan B (to start with).  the day before we were scheduled to go the weather reports were forecasting doom, gloom and flooding all in and around the holy city.  and pretty much across the entire state.  ahhhh.... so after a few hours of 'adjusting' schedules with the bus and the girls we moved it to the following weekend.

along comes the morning of our excursion (YAY!) and we all arrive early at the studio.  well, all of us except for the BUS (minor detail).  after hunting them down (not an easy task on a saturday - i owe angie 4 margaritas for this...) and screaming at them, they realize they never changed the reservation and do not even have us on their schedule (and we're on a pretty tight schedule as it is).  long story short (if you want the full-on ranting screaming version - even a month later - with the name of the company we wouldn't recommend to ANYONE on earth - swing by the studio.  but i warn you you'll want to bring sonic drinks and settle in for a while...) they finally arrive almost 2 hours late, and instead of our bus we scheduled with them they have sent the completely tricked-out brittany spears pepto bismol tour bus.  i must say, it was a HOOT.

so we arrive - the light is BEE-YOO-TEE-FUL!!!  however, the wind was a bit annoying (LOL!).  but we made the most of it and had THE best time ever (well, i did - hee hee).  we even trekked up to meers burgers for some famous food before heading home.  and i only managed to get 3 people sick, so i think i'm doing a bang-up job in the fun department!!  YEE HAW!!

here are a few images from our playdate, or 'plan B' as i've now renamed the excursion.  the light was very warm and beautiful for most of the morning, and i love the effects it has on the stones and the prairie grass!

love my seniors!! meet allie...

i have to say, sometimes you just have a TON of fun doing anything, nothing, and everything all at once.  that's pretty much how i live my life in general, but i just had to comment on how much fun i had playing with allie and her mom.  we did a lot of giggling, and talking, and playing, and goofing off, and...well, as you can see we managed to get some phenomenal images in the process!!  this is how i work in general - so a word of caution, you're going to get another lifelong bestest (yes, that should be a word) friend when you come play with me.  :-)

so meet my new bestest friend allie from bishop mcguinness who is heading off to the university of arkansas in the fall.  YAY ALLIE!!!

spa family circle

a few weeks back i went up to kansas city to spend some time with my friends the antisdels.  the antisdels are the owners of senior portrait artists (spa), which is by far the most amazing group of senior portrait photographers in the world.  these are the people who set the standards for senior portrait photography - the trends, the fashions, the photography, the desire, the latest and greatest, and the most important of all - the experience.  they are pretty amazing.  :-)  and i happen to love them tremendously too!!

i spend several weeks over the course of a year at educational venues keeping up on the latest and greatest, getting inspired, learning new techniques, and even speaking.  my 2 favorite events are always hanging out with the jed & vicki, and spending time with the antisdels.  nothing inspires me more.

this trip was for an intimate gathering of photographers for a 'family circle' of sharing.  we did a lot of talking about marketing (i spoke to the group about our fashion show, which we had just finished before we left), photography, lighting, inspiration, and passion (my favorite).  we also spent a lot of time talking about fun stuff too (looking for a career change matthew singer?? tee hee hee!).  and eating.  my favorite event of all (LOL!).

SpaBlog01

a little bit of zoolander mixed in with austin powers.  can't beat that for great photography.  todd van fleet (left) and lee larson are definitely workin' on bringing sexy back.  or maybe (as i recommended to my friend christian sangree) they should just keep it locked up where it is.  seems to be safer there.

on the last day kia and sana brought in a couple of models to photograph.  this is always my favorite part - getting to see different ways of lighting, playing with the feel of the image, and working with playful personalities.  amazing!!

SpaBlog02

this guy looked awesome in everything we put him in, including this michael jackson jacket straight from 1981.  we couldn't find a white glove to go with it (trust me, i looked), but as it seems members only is making a comeback, you might get used to seeing the look when you're out and about.  but if shoulder pads come back into style i'm going to have to take a stand...

SpaBlog03

in GENERAL, i'm not a big fan of black and white - color is what inspires me.  however, every now and then an image speaks to you that absolutely MUST be black and white - whether high contrast, soft, or even hand colored.  this image that kia setup was stronger WITHOUT color.  the high contrast of the light on their faces gave this image the mood that it begged for.

SpaBlog04

they had the boy scooting around on the buddy, and picking up the girl - it was a HOOT!!!  but as we were watching from afar we noticed his turning radius confidence was smaller than the available turning AREA, so micala sent sari (above) out for the rescue.  hee hee.  i'm sure he would have been fine, but the image of him tossing the girl onto her bum might not have been as humorous to her, so sari jumped in to save the day.  YAY SARI!!!

SpaBlog05

kia looking fab as always.  :-)  love love love love kia.  :-)

SpaBlog06

after the 'pickup' (which consisted of a honk and a finger wiggle), they were off to ride into the sunset (or the ditch if we hadn't intervened (see paragraph above)).  ahhhhh, young love (or young models whom you script for love).  :-)  i really like the feel of this image.

SpaBlog07

and last but not least - OUR NEWEST ADDITION TO THE FAMILY!!!!!  meet my cousin michele (mcintosh), who will be joining us at 3 girls as our newest member of the team - YAY MICHELE!!!!  she and her husband dustin (and their 3 GIRLS!!!!  WOOT!!!) are moving down to oklahoma from ohio.  i am sooooooooo crazy excited to have them here!!  michele is also a professional photographer, and has an extreme passion for babies and children.  she will be joining us in studio this week (some of you have already talked with her by phone!), and will be up to speed by, oh, wednesday at the latest!  truly, she is amazing in all aspects and brings SO much to our world.  I LOVE YOU 'CHELE!!!

til next time my fabulous peeps!

2010 senior models highlights video

okay, thanks to andy and sana who've made me believe i can conquer the world (really, even andy did!), i'm attempting a pretty 'techie' thing for me to do (remember, i'm the 'creative' one, not the 'techie' one - that would be JIM the technical guru in the house).  drumroll please...i'm going to EMBED some code in here so you can see a video!!!  YAY ME!!!

THEN, i'm going to create a really cool place in our blog where i can upload videos anytime i want and you guys can go see them anytime YOU want.  i know, i'm a genius!  :-)  hee hee...

this video is the one we created for the fashion show this year - it shows highlights from some of our 2010 senior model sessions that we photographed all over creation in order to get some really unique looks for this year (YAY!!).  and yes, you CAN be photographed at a few of these locations for your senior portraits!  our model session includes an excursion to one of our exclusive locations.  BUT, we only have a few of these sessions available, so be sure and call the studio soon!

and for all other sessions - we will be photographing in our BRAND NEW 3400+ sq. ft. STUDIO with TWO CAMERA ROOMS this year!!!!  more info to come (so i don't hijack my own post LOL!), but just know that we're taking it to the next level in providing the most amazing portrait experience for each and every client.  we love you guys!!!

til next time...

ethan at the cabin

i know it SEEMS as if i'm stuck on the boys lately, but really that's not the case.  it's sort of like falling in love with sushi, and then all of a sudden you're eating sushi EVERY day because it's at the forefront of your mind.  so as much as i forget to post the boys we photograph over the course of the year, it seems as if once i start blogging them i just can't quit.

so we've been swamped and crazed and sleep-deprived and happy and excited and thrilled and overwhelmed and speechless and.... well... all that and more wrapped up in a neat little package lately. there are SO many things on my list (really, there is a list, i've written these things down on PAPER!) that i will be blogging about soon.  so soon i can see the typeface in my head already (i have a slightly photographic mind - it's eerie - wonder if it's working in esp mode?).  i need to talk about being interviewed on the Fox morning show.  about being interviewed by other networks at the fashion show.  about the FASHION SHOW ITSELF!!! (that one might need multiple blog entries - i can see a three part miniseries now...), about this AWESOME, AMAZING, and totally FUN trip we just took with some of my favorite model peeps last weekend (which was an interesting turn of events - 'plan B' as my life is called lately - that turned out to be a hoot and a half all day), the trip that i'm on now in kansas city with my extended 'family' (the antisdels) learning and sharing and speaking to awesome peeps, and what autumn has been up to lately.

plus, oh yeah.. THE BIG NEWS.  most of you know it already.  but for those that don't, i just hate revealing it until it has more impact.  so stay tuned...

but in the meantime (yes i ramble.  yes i'm aware of it.  yes it drives jim completely crazy. but it's totally who i am), i've been wanting to post these images of ethan for WEEKS.  yes WEEKS.  because these images are some of my FAVES.  the surreal colors and textures from this session add a wonderful feel to the mood of the images, and i had a blast playing that day.
